Debbie Ewing

Artist and illustrator

“Butterflies have always held a special place in my heart—their vibrant colors, graceful flight, and incredible metamorphosis symbolize transformation and resilience.”

As an illustrator, I strive to bring these enchanting creatures to life on the pages of children's books, hoping to spark curiosity and wonder in young readers. Whether through vibrant watercolor wings or whimsical storybook landscapes, my goal is to create art that encourages exploration, learning, and a lifelong love for nature’s smallest wonders.

Growing up in the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado, I spent my summers immersed in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, where my love for art and nature blossomed. From the time I could hold a pencil, I filled sketchbooks with illustrations inspired by the natural world, capturing the delicate beauty of flowers, animals, and, most of all, butterflies.

Through my illustrations, I hope to inspire both children and adults to appreciate not only the butterflies in their own backyards but also the incredible biodiversity of these delicate creatures across the globe. By fostering a love for butterflies, we also nurture an awareness of the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of protecting the natural world.

Debbie Ewing’s artwork makes the hidden stages of butterfly life feel close enough to discover in your own garden.
