Some places don't just take your breath away, they change the way you look at the world.

Can You Read North Cascades National Park? opens the door to one of America's most wild and least visited landscapes, ancient glaciers, old-growth forest, and peaks that belong to another world entirely. Museum-quality illustrations by Kelly Liedke, along with poetic verse and just enough science make this the kind of book you linger over at any age.

Step into the dramatic world of the North Cascades National Park and discover how one of the most rugged and remote mountain ranges in North America shelters glaciers, wolves, and ecosystems found almost nowhere else on Earth. Follow the vertical journey from ancient valley floors to ice-capped peaks, and learn how altitude, snowpack, and isolation have shaped the plants and animals that persist at the edge of survival. Through poetic verse, vivid illustrations, and fascinating real-world facts, this book reveals the science of glacial dynamics, alpine ecology, and predator-prey relationships. A celebration of wildness and scale, it invites readers to see the North Cascades as a place where nature has not yet made any compromises.

Author and educator Neil Rosen is passionate about the transformative power of books on children and their families. An award winning national and internationally recognized pen and ink artist, with a day job...

Art has always been there. I discovered ink and pointillism at about the same time in high school, and I was hooked! Working with ink is both forgiving and very very not forgiving at the same time. I fell in love with the challenge as well as the journey each drawing takes you on. Sometimes it’s fast and crazy and other times it’s simple and easy. I love the way the ink’s own energy and mine work into the final piece, just like how it should be. It is important that you understand this haunts me and keeps me awake. Even when I’m busy with the other passions and responsibilities in my life, the drawings are working in my head, and waiting for their moment. I have told many people, even though the drawings take time 15-45 hours, the real struggle is in the planning. That can take months or years.

I am heavily involved in my community’s art programs. I work as the vice president in a cooperative gallery, as an active guest artist at another and I’m on the show committee for a local art club. I love participating in juried shows, new people, new galleries and spaces and sharing my skills and drawings with people who might not have seen pen and ink expressed in this way before. I have had the pleasure of showing my art all across the United States and had the honor of seeing my drawings published in magazines in Canada, U.S. and Europe. I have made many friends and learned so much while traveling to juried shows in the U.S and Europe. This journey that I am on, is an amazing gift and I hope the ordinary miracles that fascinate me can captivate you and the members of your world.
