Renee DeVault Bisco

Artist, storyteller, and careful observer of wild neighbors

“I wanted every page to make the familiar feel surprising again—and to help families look twice at the wildlife outside their door.”

As an artist and avid nature lover, working with Wild Stork on this book has been an absolute dream come true. I hope to inspire a curiosity and love for animals in all of my art, but this book especially I hope to inspire young people to take a second look at animals they may have traditionally overlooked.

I used to volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation clinic and have rehabbed multiple different kinds of native animals, including raccoons. They are truly fascinating little creatures and they live so close to us! We even have a backyard raccoon that we pick up on our security cameras every now and then. I used him to inspire a couple of the images in this book.

For the images in this book I used watercolor pens, ink, and gel pens. This is a combination of mediums that I have used to create a body of work, inspired by nature, that I turned into a small business where I sell prints, stickers, bookmarks, notebooks, and other items.. You can visit me online at www.Renéeissance. Art or in person at pop up markets across the Kansas City area.

Renee’s illustrations invite families to replace fear with curiosity and discover the remarkable lives sharing their neighborhoods.
