The mountains don't just take your breath away. They give something back.

Can You Read Rocky Mountain National Park? opens the door to towering peaks, hidden alpine lakes, and wildlife that seems to belong to another world entirely. Museum-quality illustrations by Carolanne Henning, plus poetic verse and just enough real science take the whole family on an adventure they will revisit over and over again.

Step into the high-altitude world of Rocky Mountain National Park and discover how a landscape shaped by ice age glaciers and continental uplift has become one of the most biologically rich places in North America. Follow the journey through aspen groves, subalpine meadows, and tundra stretching above the treeline, and learn how elk, pika, and bighorn sheep navigate a year defined by extremes. Through poetic verse, vivid illustrations, and fascinating real-world facts, this book reveals the science of alpine ecology, snowmelt hydrology, and the seasonal rhythms that drive everything from wildflower blooms to autumn rut. A celebration of altitude and endurance, it invites readers to see Rocky Mountain as a place where the Earth has never stopped reaching higher.

  • Meet The Artist Carolann Henning

  • I am from Colorado and have been exploring nature and loving wildlife since I was little. My children encouraged me to illustrate this story for WildStork. My love for animals and nature always inspires my artwork and brings joy to my everyday life. I have learned that when you seek beauty, you will then find it.
My work is typically watercolor or acrylic, with bright colors and a blend of realism and abstraction. I am learning every day.
